Agribusiness

Agriculture is the world’s largest land use. Global agriculture is characterized by a great deal of industrialization. Factory farming, plantation management and technological advances generate great growth. Through the use of artificial fertilizers, chemical pesticides and fossil energy, agricultural yields have risen sharply. Similarly, the processing of agricultural products followed conventional industrial standards, in which the increase in yield and the reducing of costs is in the foreground. Cooling, refrigeration and heating systems play a central role throughout the entire agricultural value-added chain, right through to the finished end product. Both in the farmer and in the processing, they are in various production steps right up to storage in use. Due to this fact, cooling, refrigeration and heating systems represent a large part of energy consumption and thus energy costs in agricultural production.
